Can We Forgive Dylann Roof?

“I forgive you,” said the daughter of 70-year-old Ethel Lance to the 21-year-old man (Dylann Roof) who allegedly murdered her mother in church and appeared at an emotionally charged video court appearance in Charleston on Friday afternoon, two days after a horrific mass shooting there.

Relatives of the Emanuel church victims stood up one by one in the courtroom, offering forgiveness to the man accused of murdering their sons, mothers and grandfathers in cold blood, as a nation continued to call for justice.

“You took something very precious from me, but I forgive you,” Lance’s daughter said through tears. “It hurts me. You hurt a lot of people, but may God forgive you.”

Speaking of her son Tywanza Sanders, Felicia Sanders said to the suspect: “We welcomed you Wednesday night in our Bible study with open arms. You have killed some of the most beautifullest people that I know. Every fiber in my body hurts. I will never be the same.”

She continued: “Tywanza was my hero. But as they say in the Bible study, we enjoyed you, but may God have mercy on your soul.”

These are the words of families who have lost their lost ones. But some have argued on social media and said, “How can they forgive someone who took other people’s lives”.

Well, the truth is that the Bible teaches valuable lessons about life and how forgiveness is one of the most fundamental principles a human being should learn to do.

Yes he committed a great sin, but he would be committing an even greater sin if he rejected God’s forgiveness. I personally think that he needs to repent and ask God for forgiveness for those he’s hurt, including himself. He needs to forgive himself.

I’m not a Psychologist and don’t know what he might be going through mentally or emotionally, but to some degree he probably hates what he’s done.

I know that God still loves him despite what he did. I pray for him, his family, and the families of all the victims and members of society as well – that we can all find peace and forgive.

Do you find yourself in this kind of dilemma where you don’t know whether you are ready to forgive or keep on hating and being angry at what has happened in your life? Let’s continue this conversation by clicking on the pop-up banner below.

How Do You See Yourself?

Worthless or Worthy?

Do you like yourself? I’ve got to discover that most people really don’t like themselves. Some of them know it, while others don’t even have a clue that this is probably the root of so many other problems in their lives.

God wants us to have great relationships, but self-rejection and even self-hatred are the roots of many relationship problems. In fact, I’ve found the Bible to be a book about relationships, providing valuable advice about my relationship with God, other people and even myself.

How are the relationships with other people in your life? What about your relationship with God…and even with yourself?

Did it ever occur to you that you have a relationship with yourself? Most of us have never given it much thought, we spend more time with ourselves than with anyone, and it’s vital to get along well with yourself. Remember, you are the one person you never get away from.

Many of us end up rejecting ourselves because we feel that nobody really loves, appreciate or accepts us. We figure that if nobody else loves us, then why should we love ourselves? Because we think others don’t love us, we feel that we must not be worth loving. But that’s a LIE we’ve believed for way too long!

We should love ourselves—not in a selfish, self-centered way that produces a lifestyle of self-indulgence, but in a balanced, godly way that affirms God’s creation as essentially good and right. We may be flawed by unfortunate experiences we’ve gone through, but that doesn’t mean we’re worthless and good-for-nothing.

We must have the kind of love for ourselves that says, “I know God loves me, so I can love what God chooses to love. I don’t love everything I do, but I accept myself because God accepts me.” We must develop the kind of mature love that says, I will not reject what God accepts. I’ll accept myself as I am.”

Many times people who reject themselves do so because they can’t see themselves as good, proper, or right. They fail to see themselves the way God sees them—as precious children He dearly loves.

As you begin to see yourself through God’s eyes—someone who’s loved and cherished—your view of yourself will begin to change. You’ll begin to see yourself not as rejected, but as loved and accepted…unique and beautiful in His sight. Continue this conversation by clicking on the pop-up banner.

Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone

0

The documentary promises to focus on Simone as musician, activist and mother. It combines archival footage, with interviews with the star and recordings of her music.

“My mother was one of the greatest entertainers of all time. When she was performing she was an anomaly. She was brilliant, she was loved. People think that when she came on stage she became Nina Simone. My mother was Nina Simone 24/7. And that’s when it become a problem,” recalls her daughter Lisa Simone in the trailer for the documentary.

Lisa – Simone’s only child, features extensively throughout the film and on the soundtrack – covering Simone’s much loved I Want A Little Sugar In My Bowl.

Over the years, Lisa has spoken openly about her mother’s struggle with depression and alcoholism, and their tortured relationship.

“My mother could be a monster. I was not a happy child when I was alone with her. My mum shot me down a lot, attacked me in public. It is easy to attack children, they are small and depend on you,” Lisa told Daily Mail last year.

At one point the mother and daughter became estranged to the extent that Simone cut Lisa out of her will. But they reconciled a few years before Simone’s death from breast cancer.

Nina Simone

In her latest project, Lauryn Hill leads a pack of music superstars including Usher, Mary J Blige, Common and Jazmine Sullivan, as they lend their voices to a full-length tribute album to Simone entitled: Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone.

The 16-track album was created to accompany What Happened, Miss Simone? a documentary film on the life of the legendary singer – set for release on internet streaming channel Netflix on 26 June.

It features contributions from Ms. Lauryn Hill, Usher, Jazmine Sullivan, Common, and more. In addition to her stirring cover of ” Feeling Good”, Ms. Hill debuts “Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Hair,” her second of six covers, which she produced and performed for the compilation.

Usher channels the late legend on his bluesy rendition of “My Baby Just Cares For Me,” and Jazmine Sullivan brings down the house with her reggae-inspired cover of “Baltimore.”

Being Gay?

Some people say they live the gay lifestyle and some say they are born gay. I am totally confused.

On Christian radio, certain websites and churches I hear that homosexual attractions can be changed. But professional psychological organizations and pro-gay groups are convinced that change is impossible, and I should just embrace gay identity. I’ve also heard stories of ex-gay leaders who go back to the lifestyle.

Some people say that the Bible condemns homosexuality, and others say it does not. I hear some evangelicals accept monogamous gay marriage, based on the argument that the Bible simply does not address monogamous same-sex relationships, but I hear most evangelical churches insisting that marriage is only between a man and woman.

Now the question I’ve heard most people ask is, “What does the Bible say about homosexuality and is it sinful”?

I’m NOT an expert nor do I fully understand homosexuality in depth, but what I know is the Bible consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin, Genesis 19:1-3, Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, Romans 1:22, 20:13.

There are other scriptures in the Bible which teach specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God. When people continue in sin and unbelief, God “gives them over” to even more wicked and depraved sin in order to show them the futility and hopelessness of life apart from God. 1 Corinthians 6:9 proclaims that homosexual “offenders” will not inherit the kingdom of God.

God does not create a person with homosexual desires. The Bible tells us that people become homosexuals because of sin and ultimately because of their own choice. A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as some people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person’s choosing to sin by giving in to sinful desires. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger/rage, does that make it right for him to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true with homosexuality.

However, the Bible does not describe homosexuality as a “greater” sin than any other. All sin is offensive to God. Homosexuality is just one of the many things listed in 1 Corinthians that will keep a person from the kingdom of God.

Get Up And Work

0

For some of us, waking up early means falling out of bed, wandering around like a zombie until that third cup of coffee, and then taking a mid-morning nap just to feel semi-okay. Not anymore! To effectively wake up early, you’ll have to reset your sleep schedule, develop effective waking-up-early habits, and become more of a morning person than you currently are.

Remember the buzz word is “Get Up And Work”. You won’t get things done or achieve anything if you are feeling exhausted and not motivated. Now I have a few things to help you get started and boost your mornings.

Here are some things you need to keep in mind to be motivated to get, get going and work:

Pick your goal wake-up time. If you’d like to get good at being ready and raring to go by 6 AM, great! There’s your goal. This will be the goal you’re working toward every day of the week. You’re going to do it gradually, though, as to avoid shocking your system. That’s right, every day of the week, including weekends. Until you’re completely reprogrammed, there won’t be any sleeping in whatsoever. But once you get it down, you won’t need to!

Set your alarm clock 30 minutes earlier than normal. If you’re normally sleeping till 7am, try aiming for 6:30am instead.

Give yourself enough time for a good night’s rest. Sleep for 8 hours, to get enough rest.

Get excited about life when you wake up in the mornings. In order to hop out of bed in the morning, you may need something to hop out of bed for (your goals/dreams). So find something to get excited about! If nothing comes to mind, use this experiment as something to do full-force. After all, the path to new, more productive habits is certainly something to be proud of. What do you have going on in the next day that you can’t wait to get up for? Its size does not indicate its efficiency — small things work just as well.

I’m sure this will help you get going and be excited about life in general. Be excited about your dreams, goals and look forward to something new.

The Bible has a great deal to say about laziness. Proverbs is especially filled with wisdom concerning laziness and warnings to the lazy person. Proverbs also tells us the end in store for the lazy: A lazy person becomes a servant (or debtor): “Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labour” (12:24); his future is bleak: “A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing” (20:4); he may come to poverty: “The soul of the lazy man desires and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich” (13:4 KJV).

There is no room for laziness in the life of a Christian. A new believer is truthfully taught that “…it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast”.

So are you ready to get up and work? Click on the banner below.

Caitlyn Jenner celebrated Father’s Day

0

This is one confusing story for me. About a month ago Bruce Jenner introduced himself to the world as a lady by the name of Caitlyn Jenner.

According to TMZ, Caitlyn Jenner celebrated Father’s Day with his family out in Malibu, and the pic is kind of awesome.

Kim and Kanye West were front and center with North West, along with Khloe, Kendall, Brandon and his wife, and Burt and his girlfriend, Valerie.

Jenner family

Kourtney had the flu and Brody was out of town on a DJ gig.

It’s the first time we’ve seen Caitlyn out in a dress. She looks great, but maybe a tad overdressed for off-roading.

So do you think Caitlyn should have celebrated Father’s Day or she should rather have waited for next year’s Mother’s Day instead?

Zoe Saldana: He Uses My Last Name

Recently we heard that Zoe Saldana’s husband took her last name. She believes criticism about her husband Marco Perego’s choice to take her name is ”disgusting”.

Saldana recently revealed husband Marco Perego – who she wed in 2013 – had chosen to take her name and has blasted those who branded it wrong (Zoe Saldana: He uses my last name).

She said: ”I’m very happy that people are talking about it. For men to be discriminated and picked on for wanting to take on their partner’s name, for their masculinity to be put into question, I think it’s disgusting. It shouldn’t be that way.

”If my husband and I, what we’re doing in our lives serves as an example then we’re happy.”

Zoe and Marco

Since announcing the news, Saldana and Perego have been receiving a lot of support from couple’s who’ve decided to take the woman’s surname too.

She added to Entertainment Tonight: ”But we realised that by our fans writing to us that people have been doing this since the beginning of time. We’re just the only ones that live in a public eye and it makes the news. That’s what really made us feel so happy… We felt that we’re not alone. When asked what she hopes it would teach her six-month-old twins Cy and Bowie, she added: ”That they have a great man as their father. And even better mom!”

Where I come from, a woman takes the man’s last name. I’ve had a debate with a couple of friends about this; my argument was that in marriage a man and woman become one flesh. Furthermore, because the man is the head of the family it is his name that represents the family. When a wife takes her husband’s name, she displays submission to him.

Do you think a man should take over the wife’s surname? Is it cultural? Biblical? What are your thoughts? Let us know by clicking on the banner below.

Benefits Of Coconut Oil

10 Amazing Beauty Tricks With Coconut Oil

On a budget you can solve 10 of your beauty problems—naturally.

Let’s work backwards. When you think about the health benefits of coconut oil, we’re going to guess that the last thing that comes to mind is rubbing the edible plant grease all over your face. Or your arms. Or your hair. But a growing body of research, countless experts, and an army of natural-beauty devotees swear by the stuff for just about everything. Are they onto something?

Yes, according to our experts. Coconut oil is used in many natural beauty products, and for good reason: It’s naturally antibacterial and antifungal, it’s an excellent moisturizer, it can penetrate hair better than other oils, and, well, it smells like cookies.

Here, count on two hands our completely natural DIY beauty tricks with coconut oil.

1. To soothe dry hands
This won’t work for dry digits when you’re on the go, but at home, coconut oil can work wonders on your dishwashing-parched hands. Keep a jar of organic extra virgin coconut oil by the kitchen sink and put a little on after washing your hands to keep them soft and moist. And if you cook with coconut oil—you can sub it for butter in baking recipes because it’s solid at room temperature.

2. As a cheekbone highlighter
Nothing perks up a tired face like a little highlighter, but you don’t need store-bought products to achieve the same effect. Simply sweep a small amount of coconut oil on top of makeup and leave it alone. It looks like your skin but glowier, which is why many natural makeup brands use it as a base ingredient in their formulas. If you’re looking for a more portable option, try the cult favorite Living Luminizer by RMS Beauty, which has a coconut-oil base and light reflecting pigment.

3. Shave your legs
Conventional shaving cream is an expensive cocktail of chemicals that you don’t need to get a nice clean shave on your legs or underarms. Coconut oil, on the other hand, is inexpensive, naturally antimicrobial, and smells divine. Plus, its skin-soothing properties will leave your legs looking hydrated (but never greasy).

4. As a deep-conditioner
There’s a reason many conditioners contain coconut oil: It’s better able to penetrate hair (and prevent protein loss) than mineral and sunflower oil, according to research. Use it on your hair and skin for deep conditioning. Apply a quarter-size dollop to your hair, comb it, and then pile it into a loose bun. You’ll want to place a soft towel over your pillow or sleep in a shower cap. In the morning, shampoo as usual with a gentle cleanser.

5. To remove eye makeup
Yes, coconut oil even works on waterproof mascara! Put a little on a cotton ball and gently sweep it over your eyes, paying attention to your under-eyes as well. The oil does a great job breaking down waxy, inky eye makeup, and leaves the delicate area hydrated, too. Once you’re done, wash your face as usual.

6. As a body moisturizer
A recent animal study found that when applied topically, virgin coconut oil can speed up wound healing, and a human study found it to be effective in increasing hydration and reducing water loss in seriously dry skin. Sounds like a recipe for a really good lotion to us! It’s a health-expert favorite, too. It smells delicious, is very affordable, and leaves your skin feeling nourished and smooth.

7. To clean your face
Because coconut oil is naturally antibacterial, antifungal, moisturizing and, according to research, great for atopic dermatitis, many women swear by its use as a nighttime moisturizer for their face, too. Try the double-cleansing method: Simply rub the oil in circular motions all over your face and neck, giving yourself a gentle massage as you go. When you’re done, wash off the residue with your favorite cleanser. (If you’re adult-acne prone, avoid this technique unless you know your skin tolerates coconut oil.)

8. To add shine
Smooth a tiny amount of coconut oil onto your ends to add a little shine if you have dark hair. Remember that a dab will do you: Any more and your hair might appear greasy.

9. In a luscious body scrub
Here’s a little DIY beauty secret: That store-bought body scrub you save for special occasions? It’s a waste of money. That’s because you can make one yourself with ingredients you already have in your kitchen. I love to do this. It’s wonderfully moisturizing, great for the skin, inexpensive, and blissfully absent of chemicals you can’t pronounce! To make your own, melt ½ c of coconut oil at very low heat. Pour it over 1 c of brown sugar or salt and stir well. If you have some on hand, add in five drops of your favorite essential oil or some pure vanilla extract for a scrub so fragrant you’ll want to eat it.

10. For a little rubdown
Many store-bought massage oils have either coconut or jojoba oil as their base. Cut out the middleman and go straight to the bottle. It’s slippery, skin-friendly, and moisturizing, too.

Hope all these tips will help you.
