The 14th Annual Metro FM awards was held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Conference Centre (ICC), in Durban. Music stars and celebrities came out in their finest to celebrate greatness in music.

Hip hop artist, Cassper Nyovest scooped the most coveted awards and walked away with five trophies.

Optical illusion: Dress colour debate goes global. A debate between family and friends about the colour of a dress for a wedding has become an internet sensation.

Alana MacInnes, of Uist, and Caitlin McNeill, from Colonsay, sought views on Tumblr about whether it was gold and white or blue.

The debate was picked up by fashion bloggers, Buzzfeed, the Washington Post and US magazine Wired.

On Twitter the debate’s hash tag #TheDress is the top trending tag. Wired has even looked at the science behind why people are seeing the dress as a gold and white, blue and white, blue and blue or blue and black.

Professors have also joined the scientific discussion on Twitter, while celebrities including US singer Taylor Swift and reality TV star Kim Kardashian have been tweeting about the debate.

Buzzfeed’s online story about the dress has been shared more than 20 million times.

Dr Paul Coxon, a physicist at Cambridge University, has tweeted that if the dress was combined with social media users’ love of cats “the universe would explode”.

The picture of the dress was taken by Ms MacInnes and posted on social media by Ms McNeill.

Ms McNeill asked her followers: “Guys please help me – is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can’t agree and we are freaking… out.”

Ms McNeill told Newsbeat that it all started when her friend’s mother wore the dress at a wedding.

She said: “Two of my very good friends were getting married and they asked me to put together a band to come and play at the wedding

“This was a wedding on the tiny island that we come from on the west coast of Scotland called Colonsay and about 100 people were there.

“A week beforehand the bride had been sent by her mother a picture of the dress she was going to wear and when the bride showed her fiance, they disagreed about what colour it was.

“She was like, ‘It’s white and gold’ and he said, ‘It’s blue and black’.

“So they posted it on Facebook to try and see what their friends were saying but that caused carnage on Facebook.”

She said they had forgotten about the dress until the mother of the bride wore it at the wedding, when it was “obviously blue and black”.

So what colour is this dress exactly? I guess the debate continues.

You can so easily lose your reputation at the end of year party. Free wine mixed with the joy of the year coming to an end can lead many astray. Here are 6 tips for leaving the office party with your dignity intact.

Watch your wine intake: alcohol is at the root of any problem; from expressing how you (really) feel about your boss/colleagues to blowing the cover off an on-going office gossip story.

Your best bet would be to keep alcohol to a minimum. Drink some nice virgin cocktails, and water in between drinks.

Attendance is important: unless there is a very valid reason not to. It is also an ideal way to bond with your colleagues – including those you don’t know – and your boss. Maintaining a positive relationship and energy at work is very important – you don’t want to be left out of that.

Also see this as a great networking opportunity.

Arrive on time: it is not ideal to arrive late or stay for too short a time, without a good reason that is.

Watch what you say: showing off your gift of telling jokes is all good, but don’t let it be at the expense of someone else, nor the cause of conflict.

Think Rihanna’s lyric: “Everybody’s vibin’ so don’t nobody start a fight”.

Dress appropriately: don’t be the one to miss the memo. If there’s a theme, go for it!

Avoid asking awkward questions: firstly, this can create a very awkward moment between you and your co-worker. Secondly, you stand the chance of being avoided all evening (no one will want to have a conversation with you). #Embarrassing

Fans of Beyonce have lashed out on Twitter, after more than 200 alleged unretouched photos from her 2013 L’Oreal cosmetic campaign were leaked on a fan site called The Beyonce World.

The superstar, known for her hit track “Flawless (I woke up like this)”, appears to have uneven and pimply skin under heavily applied foundation in the supposed pre-Photoshop images.

But her admirers have come out in support online, criticizing the posting of the pictures, with many claiming they are not real. Beyonce has yet to comment on the unretouched photos, which were immediately taken down by the website soon after they were posted.

The outtakes appear to be from Beyonce’s adverts for L’Oreal’s Feria and Infallible products, which advertise hair dyes, lipsticks and foundations.

Due to the widespread condemnation of the images, the fansite has since removed them and has posted a message.

This whole issue makes me wonder if people are angry at the fact that Queen Bey agreed to the concept or if they are angry at the brand for misleading them?

Photoshop is used to enhance the model’s face for a commercial, it’s all business. But some might argue and say Beyonce and the L’Oreal team misled the public, especially the young girls who’ve always struggled with self esteem issues, annorexia or any other form of teenage challenge.

Beyonce is beautiful with or without photoshop. We have to learn to accept ourselves just the way we are and love the skin that we’re in. After all she is flawless and “wakes up like this” everyday. Besides everyone filters their pictures for Instagram and other social sites these days.

From Marion Cotillard’s Dior dress to Lupita Nyong’o’s Calvin Klein pearl shower, pale dresses dominated this year. Even the men were at it – Jared Leto wore a pale lilac suit and white shoes under his brolly and Cumberbatch wore white.

The success rate of the shade varied wildly. Those who qualified for the pale and sartorially interesting included Cotillard, whose dress worked mainly from the back, and Carmen Ejogo, whose sequin slip gown was almost blasé in its simplicity. But there was some wardrobe pale ail too. Julianne Moore’s Chanel was woefully drippy, Jennifer Aniston’s mermaid Versace was stale as five-day-old bread and Kerry Washington wore maid-of-honour chic. There were some notable exceptions to the pale rule: Dakota Johnson was on fire in Saint Laurent and Nicole Kidman wore a slice of Louis Vuitton sequins with a ketchup-coloured belt.

Kanye’s Yeezy Sneakers Sell Out

When he’s not crashing the stage at the Grammy awards, Kanye West apparently designs very expensive sneakers.

The controversial rapper personally handed out pairs of his new Yeezy Boost, a $350 pair of haute couture street shoes he created for Adidas, to buyers at a shop in SoHo this weekend.

The limited-edition shoes went on sale Saturday as part of New York City’s fashion week. The shoes were sold out — sneaker diehards reserved their pairs ahead of time using a smartphone app.

Only 9,000 pairs were available, but West has said he wants Adidas to produce more. Adidas was mum on how many more it would make.

Immediately after they hit the stores, the highly-coveted shoes were selling at a huge markup online. On eBay, Tech30, the Yeezy Boost was selling in excess of $1,000 a pair.

This is not West’s first foray into footwear. In 2008, he produced the Air Yeezy line of sneakers for Nike. West has also made a limited edition sneaker with Louis Vuitton, before falling out with the French fashion house.

Why Do Doctors Write So Badly?

We’ve all noticed that doctors’ handwriting can be extremely bad. Now we explore the reasons why.

Doctor handwriting is notoriously bad. But writing badly for a doctor is a matter of survival. In one eight hour shift s/he can write their signature alone fifty to one hundred or more times!

The problem for doctors is the volume of paperwork that needs to be done for each patient encounter. For legal reasons, everything done, found, or instructed, has to be documented prior to discharge. Many doctors eventually realize that most of this paper-trail ends life stuffed in filing cabinets to never be seen again and interferes in what is really important to doctors – seeing and treating patients!

Many also realize that what they write is not intended for the public to see, only for themselves and their peers. As you’ll see, the way they write is decipherable amongst them because they know what to look for. And you’ll see that illegible doctor handwriting is made not born (how could anyone get through college far less med school writing so badly?)

How they write:

Abbreviate – It’s much easier to write “SOB” than “shortness of breath”

Write small – distance takes time so writing tiny saves time.

Skip vowels – can u rd ths sntnce? Most sentences can be read without vowels.

Write the first two or three letters legibly then scrawl. Doctors use the same words over and over so it only takes one or two letters in context to recognize a specialized word.

The problem with this kind of handwriting is when doctors get so in the habit of writing bad that they write everything to their peers and public in this medical shorthand no one else – and often they themselves – can’t read. So it’s important to remember that doctors handwriting has limitations like any other tool in the medicine bag. Luckily, computer records are quickly making doctor handwriting and scribbled records a thing of the past as more docs either type or dictate their chart notes.

If you have been a fan of the Fast and The Furious franchise from day one, you’ll be glad to know that Furious 7 is about to be released.

Following Paul Walker’s death, the film was originally scheduled to be released on April 10, 2015. In July 2014, it was announced that the film’s release date had been moved forward a week to April 3. The film will mark the final film appearance of Paul Walker, who died on November 30, 2013 with filming only half-completed. After Walker’s death, filming was delayed for script re-writes, and his brothers Caleb and Cody Walker being used as stand-ins to complete his remaining scenes. Furious 7 is set for release on April 3, 2015.
