Tomorrow, 9 November 2016, the world will wake up a very different place, as the United States heads to the polls.
And depending on who wins, it will be a very different place.
After months of hard graft on the campaign trail, three very brutal & highly personal debates, television adverts and FBI investigations, it comes down to what the American people will have to say through their vote.
Hilary Clinton, and her supporters – who include Jay Z, Beyoncé, and Lebron James – will be relieved after the FBI took a decision not to lay any criminal charges over the “email scandal”, just days before the election.
Clinton had been under FBI scrutiny for using a private email server during her term as Secretary of State, something the Americans don’t take very lightly.
Trump on the other hand would have hoped to gain some mileage from that investigation – which he seems to have done.
According to the New York Times’ latest election polls, at the time of writing, Trump was polling at 43%, compared to Clinton’s 45.3%.
I’m sure many would agree this is far too tight a race, which shouldn’t have been the case.
As Barack Obama put it, at a recent Clinton rally: “Don’t boo… vote!”
That’s all that matters.
We will be watching this one closely for obvious reasons.
Whatever happens in the US election will affect the rest of the globe.
Here’s hoping the new president-elect of the free world is one that will be mature enough to sit in the oval office.
A level-minded individual with policies intended to give people the opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty and create their own opportunities.
One that will advance global peace – through peaceful means and not more violence.
Once that believes in the protection of the individual’s rights – in as far as they do not infringe on the next person’s.
You get the picture.
All the best America.
