I have great respect for people who celebrate who they are, their cultural heritage, their beliefs, and their accomplishments. I say this because far too many people have no clue as to who they are, where they come from and what they hope to achieve. Now, I may not agree or support every person who makes big noise about their heritage or beliefs, etc., but I do think it’s noble on their part to not be silent but to speak up.
One such thing caught my attention recently was the Ginger Pride Festival.
I have quite a number of ginger friends and as far as I can remember on various occasions they were teased or insulted because of their red hair. Well, not for much longer!
Behold, the ginger pride festival.
Ginger Pride festival to take place next summer, organisers say ‘time of bullying gingers is over’
‘We sent a tentative time for summer 2016 which gives us plenty of time to make plans and to promote the event’
Ginger Pride is coming next summer as organisers are planning an event to celebrate being redheads in the South West.
Plymouth, Devon, will play host to a gathering which organisers have already started preparations for, having set out plans at a pub meeting last Saturday.
Stuart Parry, 43, told the Plymouth Herald: “I wonder if we’re approaching a time when bullying gingers is over,” he said.
“Being ginger has stopped being uncool.”
The pizza delivery driver from Lipson said he had the idea for the event after suffering with depression, giving him something to focus on “through the bad times.”
The ginger festival will not be exclusively for those with red hair, as it seeks to welcome everyone to celebrate all things orange.
Stuart says he has identified a venue already with a capacity of around 150/200 for the inaugural event.
“We’ve obviously hit on something here.”
This is just one example of people who are proud of who they are, in this case redheads. This got me thinking about myself and who I am – am I proud of who I am?
Yes, we all make mistakes and we all fail from time to time. This, however, is no excuse to walk through life without pride and joy in who we are and what we’ve accomplished.
I believe in being the best I can be, maximizing each situation and opportunity awarded to me.
After some introspection I decided that I am proud of who I am and where I’m going. My past obviously has some bad choices attached to it, most of which I hope never to revisit, but I cannot remain there, I must look on towards the positive future I envision.
So, what about you? Are you proud of who you are right now? Forget your past, think about your here and now. If you are in need of a make-over and feel like you have lost too much in your past, please click on the banner below and make contact with us today!
