Kanye West has officially become the first artist to reach platinum status from music streaming alone.
Def Jem Records recently announced the artist’s achievement – after The Life of Pablo was streamed over 3 billion times around the world.
We guess Kanye wasn’t kidding when he said all he needed was “the infrastructure”.
The album was also the first streaming-only album to hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart.
This is an incredible achievement, especially in an industry that is becoming increasingly digitalised by the day, through streaming and online purchasing and other hosting platforms like Soundcloud and others.
Kanye is not showing any signs of slowing down musically, anytime soon.
He has featured in Drake’s latest album More Life, which isn’t doing too badly and he also recently dropped a new song – Love yourself – with R n B sensation Mary J Blige.
Apart from that we are yet to see what this year holds for the artist, who hasn’t given as much as a tweet in over two months.
It still remains to be seen when he will drop his much-anticipated album, Cruel Winter – the upcoming follow-up to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music compilation album Cruel Summer, set to be released sometime this year.
Last year, Kanye dropped the single Champions, which will more than likely feature on the new album.
Whatever happens, don’t keep the people waiting for too long Ye.
