We have all heard the saying “What we sow, we shall reap.” We are familiar with these words, but we often forget the significance and the simple truth that it holds. Then, when things take a negative turn in our lives, we are left asking: “How did this happen?”

The simple truth lies in understanding the seed of what we initially sowed. Was it a good seed , and was it being nurtured in a healthy manner? Or was it a bad seed that was left unattended and neglected?

For example, if you find yourself without friends, the truth may lie in the very fact that you did not sow into good friendships. If you are always running out of money before the next pay cheque comes in, maybe you’re not sowing into being a good steward of your finances.

Sowing into something means giving of your time, being intentional with it, and consciously investing in it. If we want to see and experience healthy fruit in our lives, that means that we need to be intentional about sowing the right seed.

If we want to feel less stressed, then that means exercising more, eating healthier and going to bed earlier. If we want our personal lives and families to flourish, we need to be intentional about investing our time and love into those areas.

If you had to take a closer look at your life, would you say that you are flourishing in all areas, or are you stagnating and hardly producing any healthy fruit? It’s a good question to reflect and meditate on, as it allows us to gain fresh perspective and helps us to readjust our focus so that we can flourish.

Why not pause for a moment and write down a list of things that you feel you may need to readjust and do differently. Everyone’s list will look different. Look at your life, and look at what you place value on (in terms of family, friendships, your career, creatively, spiritually, physically, and emotionally). Know your values, understand the vision for your life, acknowledge the unhealthy fruit, and make fresh changes so that you can sow the right seeds into those areas. Sow the right seeds, nurture them well, and you’ll see your life flourish beautifully.
