Why do bad things always seem to happen to good people? This is something I have never fully understood. It always seems as if the people who are the most generous, or the most kind are the ones that seem to always end up having bad things happen to them. But why? Why does the lady who spends her whole life helping the poor, end up dying of cancer, or why does the man who gives to charity end up losing a child in a car crash?
These things just don’t seem to make sense! Surely in a world driven by right and wrong, it’s the people who hate and are corrupt that should be the ones faced with these hard times, yet often this isn’t the case.
What makes it even worse is that often these “good” people can’t come back after this bad experience. It affects them in such a way, that it changes who they are. They blame God, in fact they blame everyone and anyone for this event. What breaks my heart is that a person who was once full of hope and joy, now no longer cares and see’s little point in living.
The hardest part about writing this blog is that I can’t say that there is some magical answer or solution, I don’t know of a pill you can take to make things better. I even find it hard myself to understand why my Dad had to pass away last year.
But is that it, are we suppose to just live our lives as broken people, a shell of our former selves, or is there a plan, something more?
I recently watched a video of a man who lost his daughter, and with it lost all hope. Here is how he managed to get through this tough time.
George’s story is one that I think a lot of us can relate to, we have all experienced bad things, things that we never expected, and probably thought that we would never be able to overcome, but the truth is, there is still hope.
And that hope is Jesus!
Now I know this doesn’t answer the question of why do bad things happen to good people, but what it does do is remind us that in those bad situations there is still hope.
Right when you feel like there is nowhere to go, that’s when God steps in and saves you.
I know often in these situations we blame God and honestly he is the last person we feel like speaking to, yet he is the only one who can truly ever give us life again.
Perhaps you are going through a bad time a the moment, I want you to know that you aren’t alone, and that there is still hope. Don’t give up! Instead choose to trust God, even though it might not make sense, I promise there is a plan.
